Appellation/Vineyards:Somerston wines are selected from single blocks of our 1615 acre estate, high in the eastern hills of Napa Valley. This estate bottled wine was sourced from two of our best vineyard blocks: Queensbury Block 30 and Oriental Block23, both hillside vineyards with an average elevation of 1,250 ft asl.Winemaking:The grapes were hand picked and then delivered to the winery. Gewurztraminer was the first new vineyard planted by Marti and Tom Macinski at Standing Stone Vineyards. The first vines were planted in 1994 and included 4 different clones of Gewurztraminer. A large portion of the grapes used in this wine have their origin in our new cooler areas closer to the coast. This has given us better acids and ripeness at lower sugar levels. The grapes were cooled on crushing and cold-soaked for around two days before yeast inoculation. The yeast was chosen to maximise mouthfeel and preserve fruit and colour.
