Dutton Ranch is composed of , acres of premium Sonoma County vineyards planted on coveted Goldridge sandy loam soil. Fruit for this vintage was sourced om several locations within Dutton Ranch’s Russian River Valley vineyards. Plots in the warmer end of the valley contributed ripe tropical elements, while those from cooler areas lent minerality and a structural backbone.
Grapes were hand-sorted and whole clusters were gently pressed into French oak barrels, 30% new. The wine was barrel-fermented with native yeasts and was aged sur lie in barrel for 8 months with primary battonage.
There was an above average rainfall through winter and late spring rain that impacted clusters in full bloom. This resulted in millerandage, which allows for better air flow and staves off mold. There was a minor heat wave and lack of fog in August due to climate change, meaning that nights are warmer and the days are sunnier, which tends to move maturation along at a quicker pace. Even with the lack of fog, harvest started at a "normal" time. Overall, the quality of the fruit from harvest 2019 is excellent.
Bright, big aromatics on the nose with notes of Bartlett pear, creamy lemon meringue and white rose. This full-bodied wine is creamy and rich, with flavors of honeydew melon and peach pit.
