Background:
The Alexander Valley consists of a broad valley floor bisected by the Russian River. It is surrounded by hills that block the coastal fog, keeping the region warmer than most of its neighbors. This climate, combined with well-drained, gravelly soils, helps the Alexander Valley produce some of the finest fruit in Sonoma.
Vintage Notes:
The 2016 vintage was characterized by early budbreak and flowering, followed by a cooler than normal ripening season that resulted in deep flavors and great tannin structure and acidity. The Calling’s vineyards were picked at the peak of ripeness and matured to perfection.
Tasting Notes:
Bold and inviting, the nose offers compelling layers of dark black fruit with nuances of coffee, chocolate and brown spice. The palate is rich and concentrated, with flavors of ripe blackberry and blueberry that marry elegantly with notes of vanilla, cedar and dark toffee. Soft yet with a tension and firm tannins, this is a perfect wine to pair with dry aged beef and your favorite sauce.
