VINEYARDS:
Fruit for this 2020 Sonoma County Sauvignon Blanc comes primarily from Sonoma County’s Alexander Valley. We chose other lots from similarly prestigious Sonoma County appellations, with fruit from the warmer vineyards contributing stone fruit flavors and a silky texture, while fruit from cooler vineyards lent the wine grapefruit, lemon, and mineral characteristics.
VINTAGE 2020:
2020 brought early bud break after a particularly dry and warm winter. Overcast weather during flowering turned into a warm, dry growing season with several heat events through the summer. The increased heat produced a fruit-driven harvest, which began two weeks earlier than normal on August 21 and wrapped up on September 12. Brix at harvest was between 21 and 24 degrees.
WINEMAKING:
SIMI Sauvignon Blanc is everything a wine made from this noble grape should be. A small amount of Sémillon was blended in to contribute additional richness to the palate. We fermented and aged 100% of this wine in stainless steel to guarantee classic, clean, and lively Sauvignon Blanc.
WINEMAKER NOTES:
This brilliantly clear, pale-straw-colored Sauvignon Blanc is fresh, bright, and vibrant. Fruit-forward flavors and aromas of stone fruit, apricot, orange blossom, grapefruit, lemon oil, a touch of herbaceousness, and a hint of floral character meld beautifully with a vibrant acidity. Its succulent mouthfeel leads to the minerally finish that exemplifies Sauvignon Blanc. SIMI Winery Executive Chef Kolin Vazzoler suggests pairing this wine with pasta pesto, goat cheese with olives, barbequed shrimp, vegetable stir fry, and roast chicken.
