    Info:

What the Foucault pendulum is Sun-Earth? L2? We space cadets at RSV like a balanced wine… something so elegant it seems to defy gravity. So, where did the name come from? In celestial mechanics, the Lagrange points, also known as L-points or Libration points, are orbital points where the gravitational forces of two large bodies, in this case the Sun and the Earth, cancel out in such a way that a small object placed in orbit at L2 is in equilibrium with respect to the Sun and Earth and can remain “parked” in space. RSV makes a white and a red Libration. ‘Sun-Earth’ is a beautiful, aromatic white wine whereas ‘Earth-Moon’ is a luscious red wine. If we make more than one unique cuvée of either wine, we will name it by the L-point. So this cuvée is the second cuvée of libration for the vintage.

Libration is all about balance and it does its job so well that it is an exceptionally welcome dinner companion that will have you space walking in no time.

    Winegrowing Notes:

RSV planted every vine for every wine. Location is critical to grow grapes that allow you to do less in the cellar in producing an excellent, well made wine. RSV’s organically farmed Carneros vineyards have ideal micro-climates for the delicate, aromatic white grapes of Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris alongside the noble Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains. The philosophy is grow it well by helping nature do its job with regenerative farming practices and then respect the fruit with minimal intervention for a wine that is alive and vibrant on the palate.

Weather patterns were true to the new normal with little rain in December of 2018. By late February 2019, up to 27 inches of rain fell in Carneros when the average is 20! May added another 1-3 inches of rain during flowering that caused a light fruit set. All in all, mild weather during the growing season helped preserve the natural acidity and fostered a long hang time for optimal ripeness and full flavor.

    Tasting Notes:

True to name, the 2019 Libration L2 is a sun-shining example of complexity and balance. A delicious dry white wine with a bright bouquet of jasmine, lemon blossom, fresh linen and summer melon. The first sip hits with a snap of crisp flavors like Meyer lemon, lime, yuzu and peach that zig and zag with an edge of flinty minerality and savory herbs. It is a juicy wine that has a laser focus through the long, refreshing finish. Yummy!
