Notes:
We like to take a pretty minimal approach to our winemaking and tap into some great sources and make varietally true and focused wines. However, the one part where we get to really flex some skills is during the blending process. Sometimes we weave together as many as two dozen different lots selected for cooperage, oak age, vineyards, and vineyard block. In the case of our cabernet sauvignon, we even have the option of using small pieces of other bordeaux varietals to make it just so.
The winter of 2019-2020 produced average rainfall throughout most of Northern California, with the bulk of precipitation January through May. Spring temperatures were mild and warm with bud break about two weeks earlier than average across the northern part of the state. Temperatures during the summer were above average with few nights of fog and cloud cover in the more coastal regions. The month of September was perfect for grape ripening and harvest was quickly wrapped up in the second week of October.
This vintage of Rickshaw Cabernet is just that—a Cabernet in a food-friendly, Tuesday night glass-in-front-of-the-TV style. Aromas of rich cocoa, currant and espresso with a touch of fig and blackberry jam lead to a smooth, medium-bodied wine with dark berry flavors, toasty oak and long, comforting finish.
