The Kathryn Hall Cabernet Sauvignon exudes warmth and allure. It is deep garnet in color and has enticing aromas of dark plum, cocoa powder, dried rose petal and dusty earth, laced with a subtle note of dried sage. The palate is seamless, and opulent featuring decadent dark fruit, finishing with supple, sweet, rich, and lengthy tannins. This powerful wine will unfold beautiful layers over time.
WINEGROWING NOTES:
The Kathryn Hall Cabernet Sauvignon is the pinnacle of our blending efforts each year. The exalted Sacrashe vineyard takes center stage, and is the basis of this blend. The vineyard contributes the mouth-coating richness and complexity, offering deep, dark earthy cassis flavors and powerfully dense tannins. From there, we search out complementary vineyards, usually from the most regarded mountain appellations, to create balance, symmetry and finesse in the wine. Lastly, we introduce vineyards with profound depth and decadence to heighten the voluptuousness and opulence that have become a hallmark character of our flagship wine.
VINTAGE NOTES:
An unseasonably warm spring brought early bloom and bud break. Temperatures cooled in May causing grape shatter, which resulted in uneven fruit set and further reduced an already low crop yield. As a consequence, vineyard crews worked even more diligently during verasion thinning the clusters to maintain even ripening. The growing conditions, attention to detail in the vineyards, plus a final pass through optical sorting equipment at the winery make the quality of the vintage extremely high.
