Our 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is bold, full-bodied and rich. Dark in color, it displays mighty aromas of intense dark fruit, cassis and cocoa powder. The palate displays exceptional balance with rich and layered flavors of black cherry, plum, mocha, toasted and a subtle minerality. Firm tannins gain power as the wine moves across the palate, leading to a lingering structured finish.
The 2018 growing season began was one of the mildest and smoothest in recent memory. Mild spring weather led to good fruit set in most varietals and moderate weather throughout the year made for ideal growing conditions. There were no major heat spikes, which gave us longer hang time and even ripening on the vine. Overall, the vintage produced wines with great flavor development. The fruit for our Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon entered the winery October 18 to November 6, 2018.
Vineyards & Winemaking:
Roth Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is made from select vineyard sites within the exceptional hillsides of Alexander Valley. The region's low-vigor, volcanic soils coupled with the balance of warm days and cool nights provide intense and concentrated fruit. After harvest, the wine was fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks where it was cold-soaked and pumped over once a day for several days. Once fermentation was complete, the wine was transferred to barrel and stirred weekly until malolactic fermentation was complete. It was aged in French, Hungarian and American oak (30% new) for 18 months prior to bottling.
