    Notes:

Our California expert Clare describes this just-launched Monterey gem as a “rocking new Pinot” – and for fans of flavor-packed California reds, it’s sure to hit the spot.

The acclaimed Scheid family was among the first to plant vineyards in Monterey in the 1970s, when they recognized the potential offered by the region’s cool climate and long growing season (one of the longest in California), both brought on by the cooling effects of nearby Monterey Bay. Today, the region is one of THE spots for great California Pinot Noir. As you’ll taste.

For Pescadero Rock, the family sourced premium fruit from three estate vineyards, surrounding the town of Greenfield: their Riverview Vineyard, Scheid-Arroyo Seco Vineyard and Viento Vineyard. In each block, great care is taken to ensure that the site is farmed to its specific needs, to produce the best, ripest expression of fruit flavors. In 2013, an outstanding vintage throughout California, mild spring temperatures and warm, sunny conditions that lasted through the fall allowed for an ideal harvest.

As lovers of wonderfully aromatic Pinot like this can testify, you’ll maximize your enjoyment by spending a little time with your nose in the glass. Take in the intense, fresh raspberry, cherry and spice aromas, then look forward to a similarly vibrant fruit character on the palate. There's a plump, velvety texture, too.

This crowd-pleaser’s one to pour at your next dinner party. Fantastic menu pairings include meaty fish like salmon or tuna, or roasted pork, duck and lamb. It'd also be tasty with creamy cheeses.
