BACKGROUND:
Icon is the flagship of Nobilo Wines, one of New Zealand’s pioneer estates, established by the Nobilo family in 1943.
From Five Special Vineyards:
We sourced the fruit for this wine from some of Nobilo’s finest Sauvignon Blanc vineyards located throughout the Marlborough growing region.
Pickering – Central Wairau
Jones – Rapaura
Trueman – Upper Wairau
Hay – Waihopai
Castle Cliffs – Awatere
The Awatere vineyards provide flinty minerality and herbal notes, while our Wairau vineyards produce a rich, mouthfilling palate weight. The Rapaura fruit provide lifted, thiol-driven top notes of passion fruit, citrus zest, and tropical aromas, and Waihopai’s cool soils brought intense, juicy fruit flavor.
Winemaking:
Each vineyard block was harvested and fermented separately in small tanks, then kept separate throughout. Fermentation was cool for a prolonged period, utilizing a variety of yeasts known to accentuate a complex array of aromas and flavors, and to develop the sumptuous, mouthfilling palate for which Nobilo Icon Sauvignon Blanc is renowned.
AROMA:
Complex aromatics ranging from citrus and ripe, tropical passion fruit and melon to wet stone.
PALATE:
Long and elegant with a noticeable minerality, great fruit sweetness, and juicy, balanced acidity.
Food Pairing:
Pan-seared monkfish with fresh asparagus.
