The iconic Left Bank-based blend from De Toren, Fusion V is meticulously crafted from Bordeaux’s ‘Noble Five’ varietals and, with its complex flavours of liquorice, black cherry, cedar and dark berries, it offers a stylish departure for sophisticated oenophilic tastes.Soft as spun silk, with a lingering hint of sweet fruit on the back palate, this is a wine that will only improve with age.
(aged in half new and half second-fill French barrels for 12 months, with the Malbec raised in American oak): Bright medium ruby. Crushed blueberry and blackberry aromas show an element of rocky minerality that I did not find in the 2013 Z bottling. Densely packed, tight and brooding; more savory than sweet, with strong licorice and spicy oak notes apparent in the early going. A very powerful, firmly tannic Left Bank style with the structure for extended aging. The long finish features spicy high tones. - Stephen Tanzer 91+ Points
Brambly boysenberry, blackberry liqueur and creme de cassis lead the nose and mouth of this attractive wine, with waves of cigar-box spice, mentholated herbs and leather adding intrigue. It’s firmly structured and packed with black-fruit flavors, resulting in a crushed-velvet texture. The finish is long and evolving, and this should continue to develop well through 2022. - Wine Enthusiast Magazine 91 Points
Polished, with an alluring mocha note weaving around the core of steeped cherry, plum and blackberry fruit. Coffee and tobacco details underscore the finish, which is fleshy and suave in feel. Drink now through 2020. 800 cases made. -JM. - Wine Spectator Magazine 90 Points
