Tenuta Nuova is a pioneering and visionary vineyard project emboding the belief and passion of Casanova di Neri. Tenuta Nuova means new property; Tenuta Nuova is a place where nobody planted Sangiovese before; Tenuta Nuova is the will of Casanova di Neri to produce a powerful yet drinkable Brunello with a high ageing potential. The project began with the study of varied local microclimates and their optimal exposures. Through a cautious and passionate research Casanova di Neri has used the most sophisticated scientific investigations to determine the clones, rootstocks, cultivation practices, plant density per hectare and every possible particular to obtain excellent Sangiovese grapes.
Manual selection of the grapes before and after destemming, followed by a spontaneus fermentation without the addition of artificial yeast. Maceration is assisted by a falling down system, and everything is carried out inside open cone-shaped and temperature controlled fermenters for 24 days.
TASTING NOTES :
At first sight, Tenuta Nuova 2013 already shows its potential from the bright red color.
The bouquet is very expressive and intense, with notes of young red fruit, blackberry and the typical balsamic.
In the mouth is full body, persistent and rich, with silky tannins and a superb length.
A combination of elegance and power, it should be opened at least 2 hours in advance or alternatively decanting gently.
[The] top Brunello, the Tenuta Nuova…showed the great Brunello character I look for: They’re the kind of wines focused on sleek, integrated tannins and acidity and fresh, terroir-driven flavors and fruit. Even more than that, they have a certain quality that I like to describe as palate energy. The top 2013s are reminiscent of outstanding 2006s, which can also possess similarly clear, vivid fruit coupled with depth. - James Suckling 98 Points
Casanova di Neri's 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova is celebrating its 20th anniversary (1993-2013), and a special gold-label edition of the wine was made to commemorate this important milestone. I tasted the white label for this review. This is a bold and expressive Brunello that displays tightly knit aromas of Morello cherry, spice, leather and balsam herb that are the building blocks of the most beautiful Brunellos that come to mind. The Casanova di Neri house style implies a modern and sophisticated approach for sure. But the inner spirit and texture of Sangiovese is so fine and polished in its natural state that it hardly matters. The personality of the grape shines through with a loud and confident voice. - Robert Parker 97 Points
Sweet, ripe strawberry and cherry fruit melds seamlessly with the dense, refined structure of this red. Saline, licorice and spice accents add complexity as this lingers gracefully on the finish. Terrific harmony and expression. —Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator Magazine 96 Points
