    Description:
Tinto Figuero’s Twelve Months In Barrel has an intense robe with cherry red color and blue highlights that signify good ripeness. Clean, bright and extremely well presented, the initial aromas are of ripened black berries, liquorice and well-matured red berries. It is enhanced by sweet touches of oak, chocolate, spices and coffee notes. The taste is balanced and full-flavored, with sweet, round tannins married to light acidity, giving a fresh, harmonic tone to the palate. It has a long finish, which is also silky and elegant.

    Winemaker’s Notes:

Thirty-percent of the Tempranillo grapes used in this wine come from vines older than 50 years, with the remaining 70% from 20 to 50 year-old vines. After being hand-harvested and undergoing cluster selection in the vineyards, the grapes are destemmed and go through gravity-controlled tanks, with five to six days of cold-skin maceration prior to fermentation. An additional two months of maturation follow, with malolactic fermentation taking place. The wine is aged for twelve months in two-plus year-old barrels (70% American and 30% French oak). It is then aged an additional two years in bottle before leaving the cellar. The 2011 harvest was characterized by a medium-high yield production and extreme climatic conditions – a really cold winter, and hotter spring and summer than usual. These conditions make this vintage special and give the wines the intense color, sweet tannins, and adequate pH and acidity for aging. The 2011 vintage qualified as an excellent one.

Grilled aromas of fresh asphalt and slightly murky berry fruits improve with airing, as does a full-bodied palate with big tannins. Toasty, spicy flavors of herbal berry and cassis show good complexity but are far from tame. Finishing flavors of chocolate and pepper are dry and woody. Drink through 2027. - Wine Enthusiast Magazine 92 Points

The 2011 Tinto Figuero 12 Tempranillo feels ripe and aromatic, quite expressive, with aromas of violets, peaches and blueberries, with a core of lactic and spicy aromas fighting for the leading role. The palate is medium-bodied, with firm tannins and just enough acidity. It would be phenomenal with more freshness and a little less alcohol. Drink now-2016. - Robert Parker 90 Points

Black cherry and toasty flavors mingle with savory notes of black olive and loam in this firm red. Lean in texture, this shows intensity and depth, in a traditional style. Drink now through 2021. 1,000 cases imported.–TM - Wine Spectator Magazine 90 Points
