    Heritage:

MT. GEORGE (100%) – Located east of Napa in Coombsville, Mt. George Vineyard is the site of one of the first grape plantings in the valley in the 19th century. It climbs the western slopes of an ancient volcano whose name the vineyard bears.

    Soils + Climate:

The cooler climate and deep, gravelly soils derived from volcanic rock and ash provide depth to this structured Merlot.

    Vintage:

The 2015 growing season in Napa Valley star ted out with unseasonably warm temperatures in the late winter and early spring. This resulted in an early bud break and bloom. Colder temperatures in May (during the peak of bloom) caused uneven fruit set which ultimately resulted in much smaller crop, compared to both average yields and the three abundant years that preceded it. The harvest was one of the earliest on record in Napa Valley and for Silverado Vineyards.

    Tasting Notes:

Aromas of ripe plum, black cherry, star anise and clove with a hint of flakey pie crust. Full-bodied with a broadly structured mid-palate, velvety texture, concentrated cassis flavors and a long, dusty cocoa finish.

BARREL AGING REGIMEN: Aged 16 months in oak, 43% new oak

New oak profile: 78% French, 23% Hungarian

Overall oak profile: 92% French oak, 8% Hungarian oak

    • PH: 3.40
    • TA: 5.42 g/L
    • RS: 0.03%
    • ALCOHOL: 14.6% by volume

Made from 100% Merlot from the producer’s historic site, this wine saw time in French and Hungarian oak. Flavors of currant, orange and dried herb provide a complex landscape, held together by sinewy tannins. - Wine Enthusiast Magazine 92 Points
