    Tasting Notes:

Dark plum in color, with aromas of chocolate, brambly blackberries, toasted clove and black pepper, the 2019 Plungerhead Old Vine Zinfandel invites you to dive headfirst into the glass. The first sip bursts with fruit flavors of plum, blackberry, blueberry, and pomegranate. Big in mouthfeel and flavor, balanced with tannin, this Zinfandel delivers on all points.

    Winemaker Notes:

Plungerhead wines start in the heart of Lodi, California, which has grown in popularity over recent years for crafting world-class wines. Our goal is to make wines reflective of Lodi’s true character with rich flavors that are bold and reflective of its unique soil and Mediterranean climate.

We use two primary vineyards for our Zinfandel grapes sourcing in Lodi; Grand Vin Lands Vineyard and Mettler Family Vineyards. Both vineyards are located in the sandy soils of the Mokelumne River Basin sub appellation of Lodi, known for dense, sand soils that keep the rootstocks warm during harvest, pushing ripeness to ideal levels on varietals like Zinfandel.

We add Petite Sirah from Mettler Family Vineyards in Lodi and Lambeth Family Screeching Owl Vineyard in Clarksburg along with Merlot and Teroldego into the final blend. The addition of these varietals provide complexity and fun, jammy layers for a bold Zinfandel, full of ripe fruit intensity and structure that lingers throughout the palate.
