VARIETAL + REGION:
The wine is made from fruit picked from vines situated primarily on the east side of Napa Valley. This ideal location benefits from cool mornings and late afternoon sunshine. Soils are a mix of alluvial gravel and clay with volcanic rock. Soil composition and vineyard slope allows for smaller berries with more concentrated color and ripe flavors.
ABOUT THE WINE:
Bunches are destemmed, crushed and fermented in stainless steel. During fermentation the juice is pumped over the skin daily to extract color and flavor from the grape skins. A post fermentation maceration on the skins lasts for a few weeks before the wine is racked into smaller vessels for aging. After 12-18 months the wine is ready to be bottled.
TASTE:
Deep crimson in color with lavish aromas of black currant, mocha, and savory herbs with trailing notes of tobacco leaf and vanilla. Full and well-rounded with soft edges and a lively dose of bright cherry fruit that unfolds into a smooth finish. This wine is built to last, but perfectly good to pop open tonight.
