    Background:
This Napa Cabernet Sauvignon reflects a traditional old-school approach to winemaking, where terroir is allowed to express itself and the art of the blend results in wines of balance and complexity. Joseph Carr and celebrated winemaker Aaron Pott work with small growers in the Napa Valley and Rutherford AVAs to assemble this cuvée, which offers richness, depth, and approachability.

    Winemaking:
Hand-picked at the peak of flavor development, the grapes are crushed and cold-soaked for 24 hours. The cap is punched down three times daily to maximize flavor extraction during fermentation and maceration, which lasts 10 to 15 days. The wine is aged in 100% French oak for 16 to 18 months.

    Vintage Notes:
Called “a dream vintage” by Wine Spectator, Napa’s 2014 harvest was unusually early due to the ongoing drought. Ideal temperatures and some rain relief in late winter set the vintage up to rival the great 2012 and 2013. Look for powerful fruit and ripe tannins.

    Tasting Notes:
The wine features aromas of fresh black cherry, tobacco, and vanilla. Full-bodied yet balanced with food-friendly acidity and tannin, the long finish highlights flavors of black plum and chocolate.

    Varietal Composition:
    81% Cabernet Sauvignon
    6% Merlot
    5% Petit Verdot
    4% Cabernet Franc
    4% other
