The Barrot family has been wine growers in Chateauneuf du Pape since 1690. Lucien Barrot established his domain at Chemin du Clos in 1975. Today the domain is run by his son Régis Barrot.
The domain covers 16 ha.of Chateauneuf du Pape and 2 ha of Vin du Pays.
The normal blend for the red Chateauneuf du Pape is 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah and 10% Cinsault/Mourvedre.
The average age of the vines is 50 years, and the yield is normally about 30 hl/ha.
The domain is a typical example of traditional wine production in the area. No de-stemming, fermentation in big cement tanks and afterwards ageing in big foudres for 1-3 years. The bottling takes place, when the space in the foudres is needed for a new harvest or the wines are sold. - Winery
Whiffs of bramble and wild mint lend complexity to ripe black cherry and blackberry on the palate of this Grenache-dominant blend. It’s a rich, penetrating wine, with a silky, supple mouthfeel contrasted by fine, densely packed tannins. Elegant and balanced, it’s appealing already but likely will better in 2021 and should gain depth and complexity well through 2030. - Wine Enthusiast Magazine 94 Points
The 2016 Chateauneuf-du-Pape is solid, with a classic, traditional bouquet of crunchy red fruits, Asian spices, and garrigue. It has good acidity, medium body, moderate tannins, and a good finish. Give it a few years to let the tannins chill out. It should appeal to both modernist and traditionalist. The blend is 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah and the rest Mourvedre and Cinsault. - Jeb Dunnuck 90-92 Points
