    VINTAGE:
2012 was a classic vintage. A very dry, cold winter led into a spring with increased rainfall just prior to budbreak, giving the vines a nice drink to start the growing season. Spring temperatures increased quickly generating rapid vine growth while warm, calm conditions during flowering ensured a healthy yield. A long, consistent summer allowed even ripening with retention of acidity and the absence of harvest heat waves allowed picking at perfect maturity.

    WINEMAKING:
Our Pinot Noir was hand harvested at night in 28 separate picks. After meticulous hand sorting, the grapes were destemmed with a small percentage left whole cluster. Each pick was fermented separately in small open-top fermentors. A pre-fermentation cold soak of three to seven days was used to increase color and density. Fermentation was achieved using a combination of both native and cultured yeasts with low fermentation temperatures giving soft phenolics and fresh aromatics. After total fermentor time of 10 to 14 days, the wines were then racked to French oak barrels for seven months before blending and an additional four months in the barrel.

    TASTING NOTES:
Delightful notes of cherry pie, spiced red plum, black fig, cherry cola, vanilla bean and distinctive Chamisal spice swirl from our 2012 Pinot Noir. Bright strawberry and cherry fruit flood the palate, framed by elegant tannins, vibrant acidity and subtle hints of cocoa powder and cherry blossom on the lasting finish.

    Oak Treatment:
11 months in 35% new French oak

    Alcohol:
    13.8%

Wildly expressive aromas include maple syrup-laced chamomile tea, root beer extract, wild raspberry and menthol. The palate continues the excellent array: red fruits with oregano, thyme, even basil, some sanguine flavors, some coffee. It would be a perfect companion to roasted pork or turkey, or anything that needs some extra spice. - M.K. - Wine Enthusiast Magazine 93 Points

The 2012 Pinot Noir is a beauty. Perfumed, up front and textured, it shows the vintage nicely with its spiced cherries, tar, crushed flowers and hints of licorice on the nose. Showing more floral notes with air, I love its overall purity and texture, and it should continue to drink nicely for another 3-4 years, if not longer. - Robert Parker 91 Points
