The Catena Cabernet Sauvignon shows a dark ruby color with violet tones. On the nose, it offers intense aromas of ripe blackberry, black cherry, and cassis with notes of pepper, clove, and a touch of cedar. On the palate, it is full-bodied and rich and displays layers of black currant and black raspberry with notes of cedar, tobacco and vanilla. This Cabernet Sauvignon is an elegant wine with silky tannins that provide structure and a long and persistent finish. - Winery
Compared with the 2016, the 2017 Catena Cabernet Sauvignon feels a little riper within its fresh style, with moderate alcohol and good acidity. This always contains small percentages of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, and it matured in oak barrels for 12 months. Notes of iron and fresh blood developed with time in the glass. 240,000 bottles produced. - Robert Parker 90 points
(20% new oak): Good ruby-red. Less expressive on the nose than the 2017 Malbec, offering aromas of redcurrant, plum, spices, herbs and tobacco. Red fruits and spices carry through on the broad palate. This bone-dry Cabernet finishes with a firm dusting of tannins and a lingering spicy quality. It doesn’t show quite the sweetness or harmoniousness of the 2017 Malbec but it may yet benefit from a year or two of patience. Incidentally, winemaker Vigil is quite enamored of Malbec in 2017. -
