    Tasting Notes:
Deep and brilliant ruby red in color, the 2010 Pian delle Vigne is characterized by complex and intense aromas. The wine expresses floral notes accompanied by fragrant sensations of wild cherries, raspberries, and citrus fruit followed by chocolate, toasted tobacco leaves and licorice. On the finish, there is a perceptible presence of plums, mint and eucalyptus. Balanced and ample on the palate with full and intense flavors and texture, the wine is elegant and noble in the tactile sensations of its tannins and very mineral. This Brunello promises significant expressive possibilities as it ages and develops over time.

    Vintage:
The 2010 vintage was characterized by rains during the end of winter and the spring; these conditions, together with springtime temperatures below seasonal averages, caused a slight delay in production and a small loss of production.
The summer was distinguished by lovely and stable weather and some August rains, which served as a mitigating effect on temperatures.
The weather was very positive from the period of color change in the grapes during August until the end of the ripening period, leading to a balanced ripening and a precise synchronization of physiological maturity and the desired level of sugar accumulation.
Picking began on September 22nd and took place under particularly favorable meteorological conditions.

    Vinification:
After the grapes were destemmed and softly pressed, the juice fermented in stainless steel tanks for three weeks at a steady temperature of 82° Fahrenheit.
Once alcoholic fermentation was completed, the wine underwent complete malolactic fermentation and was aged for more than two years in oak casks.
    Vineyard History:
The Pian delle Vigne Estate is located 3.5 miles south of the town of Montalcino and was named after the characteristic 19th century train station located on the property, which is still in use.
The soil is predominantly clay and limestone and is rich in small stones.
The estate comprises 454 acres, with 158 acres planted to vines.

    Grapes: 100% Sangiovese

    Alcohol: 14%

Broad and savory, with leather, licorice and spice notes leading the submerged cherry and plum fruit. This is well-balanced, showing more power than elegance and finishing long. Best from 2018 through 2032. 13,580 cases made.–BS - Wine Spectator Magazine 93 Points

The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Pian delle Vigne is a well-built wine that shows the muscular side of this celebrated star of Tuscan winemaking. The Brunello opens to a thick, dark appearance with shapely aromas of dark cherry, plum, blackberry, leather dark chocolate and spice. The winemaking is impeccable, if rather stylized in terms of oak and fruit maturity. The aim here is to produce a wine the oozes softness and richness and this goal has been abundantly achieved. Pian delle Vigne is a Brunello that will excel in both the near and long term. - Robert Parker 93 Points

Antinori's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is a highly representative wine from the Camigliano district. Soft, fruity and open, the 2010 will drink well early and hold for another decade or so. This is a decidedly round, succulent Brunello with considerable immediacy. - Antonio Galloni 92 Points

Fleshy dark-skinned fruit, vanilla, underbrush, leather and eucalyptus aromas lead the nose. The round, chewy palate offers mature black cherry, game, anisette and plum cake alongside velvety tannins. It's already surprisingly accessible. Enjoy through 2022. - Wine Enthusiast Magazine 91 Points
