70% Samso (Catalunyan for Carignan) and 30% Garnatxa. Notes of roast black plum, currant, cherry, leather, pepper, and underbrush, a plump mouthfeel and furry tannin. Albert Jané comes from the prominent Penedes family that owns the Jane´Ventura Cava house. Beginning in 2003, Albert, wanting to specialize in still wines, began acquiring small parcels of old vineyards in the rugged, varried terroir of DO Montsant. Naming his cellar "acústic", in honor of world renowned cellist Pablo Casals who was born in the area, he strives for wines that directly convey the exposition and uniqueness of each site, without artifice or contrivance. - Winery

Putting the nose into the glass of the eponymous red 2012 Acústic, a blend of Garnacha and Cariñena from a diversity of vineyards in the Montsant, made me think of Cariñena straight away. It fermented with indigenous yeast in stainless steel vats and matured in oak barrels for 10 months. The oak is very well integrated with the earthy, iron-like, blood and tree bark telltale aromas of the Cariñena and some briar wild berries. The palate is medium to full-bodied with great freshness; you'd never guess it's 15% alcohol. It has very good balance and precise flavors with fine tannins. This is a superb vintage for this wine. Fantastic value. 81,500 bottles produced. - Robert Parker 91 Points

(70% samso, aka carinena, and 30% garnatxa): Bright purple. Intense spice-accented aromas of black and blue fruits and pungent flowers. Sappy and seamless in texture, offering juicy black raspberry and boysenberry flavors and a hint of cracked pepper. Closes with excellent clarity and lift, with smooth tannins building slowly and folding into the wine's vibrant fruit. This is a fantastic value. - Josh Raynolds Vinous 91 Points
