This pretty pink blend has the old-time flair of the sweet Catawba grape that was first cultivated by settlers in this area two centuries ago. THE WINE: Medium intensity with dominant characters of blackberry, plum, black cherry and chickory and toasted rye. The fresh acidity makes it feel lighter on the palate. Dry with velvety tannins. Winemaking and Aging:55% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir, 5% Pinot Meunier. The grapes were hand-picked into small 40kg crates with careful bunch selection in the vineyard. The Chardonnay whole cluster grapes were immediately pressed while the red grapes are cold soaked for 24 hours being pressing. From harvest to pressing, extreme care is used in handling the grapes to avoid any excessive crushing or bruising. Vinification:This sparkling wine, made in the traditional Cremant style, is made entirely from Riesling. The Riesling is pressed whole-cluster in membrane presses thereby extracting a minimum of phenolic. Following the Cremant method, the Célèbre is aged “sur lies” after the estate tirage. This dry Riesling, presenting a green gold hue, displays the traditional qualities of Dr. Frank’s Riesling: crisp acidity, a pronounced mineral character and layers of mango, citrus and pear blossoms in the nose. Descriptors include apple and pear with a full-bodied taste along with minerality resulting from the slate terroir of the vineyard. This wine shows the characteristic aromas of grapefruit, lime, lychee, banana and the spiciness associated with the Gewürztraminer variety. The slight residual sugar balances the phenolic elements typical of Gewürztraminer with the complexity of mineral overtones that presents the wine with a long, clean fresh finish. Our Semi Dry Riesling, presenting a light golden hue, shows a fruitier less mineral character than the dry Riesling. The bouquet is dominated by ripe fruity aromas of honey, tropical fruits, pineapple and pear. The mouthfeel is very pleasant with a good balance between the residual sugar and the acidic backbone typical of Riesling with a long finish. The Rkatsiteli shows its characteristic fruity complexity resulting from early bottling. Along with the intense fruit are the typical spicy notes as well as pineapple and mango notes. The wine is presented in a dry version with the crisp acidity, the residual sugar and the tremendous fruit providing a very pleasant balance.
