THE VINEYARD: The Spanish term ‘Las Alturas’ means ‘the heights’, a fitting name for this vineyard located on one of the highest grape-growing benches in the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA up to 1200 feet. At this elevation, the sunny but very cool climate creates a wine bearing all the hallmarks of this coastal region: robust, expressive, full bodied, and balanced by a firm acidity. Nestled between the Santa Lucia Mountains and the western side of Salinas Valley, Las Alturas benefits from early...
Notes: It was only natural that we would make a Pinot Noir in addition to Chardonnay. The Santa Lucia Highlands is well-known as the perfect home for both these varietals. Grapes ripen slowly, enabling us to make wine of heightened complexity, with layers of aromas and flavors. Our 2015 Rosella's Pinot Noir opens with lush, woody edge and nuances of licorice over bright, dense red fruit. A Very pretty, perfumed nose of violet pastilles carries through to the palate where it is balanced with ripe berry, cola and hints of black tea and mushroom, all rounded out with a finish of sun-kissed leather. ** Only 3 in Stock **
Notes:ROAR Wines is a small family winery specializing in small lots of Santa Lucia Highland’s Pinot Noir, Syrah and Chardonnay. Both Gary and Rosella Franscioni grew up in California’s agricultural heartland where Gary’s family has farmed for over 100 years. After graduating from Cal Poly with a degree in agribusiness, Gary took over the running of the family farm business, which owned and managed over 200 acres of row crops in the Salinas Valley. In 2001, after working with several wineries...
