    Winemaker’s Insight:

The 2014 Napa Valley Cabernet strikes you visually with its brilliant bright purple and ruby hues. On the nose, notes of black cherry, blackberries, ripe raspberry, and tart plum are complemented by savory herbal notes and a gentle vanilla lift from oak aging. This is our perfect representation of a what a Napa Valley Cabernet should and can be. Its bright and inviting aroma matched by smooth tannins and a refreshing, yet lingering finish, compels you to go back for another sip. I personally love the Napa Valley Cabernet for its classic expression of Napa Valley terroir. As a winemaker, the ability to use our own vineyards throughout Napa Valley to craft this wine is one of the things I look forward to most each year. Each vineyard and each block of fruit that goes into this Cabernet is a thoughtful choice to express the very best of what Heitz Cellar, and Napa Valley, has to offer. - Brittany Sherwood, Winemaker

    2014 Vintage:

The 2014 season was yet another excellent growing year in the Napa Valley. Despite the California drought, rain thankfully arrived in February and March to give the vines a well-deserved drink of water right at the start of the growing season. This led to an overall boost of concentration and flavor in our grapes and in the end, we were fortunate to have a healthy and bountiful crop. Spring arrived early which translated to an earlier than normal crush. Our winery began harvest on August 11th and brought in the last of our fruit on October 14th. The outstanding weather over that two-month period meant that everything was picked at its optimal maturity.

Attractive red berries and red licorice in this medium-bodied cabernet. There’s handy freshness and detailed red plums and blackcurrants and a smooth, fine and juicy feel to the finish. Drink or hold. - James Suckling 93 Points
