2004 Barolo Case Nere is a dark, brooding wine endowed with notes of smoke, earthiness and tobacco that emerge from its intense frame. This contemplative wine opens nicely in the glass, showing notable delineation in its aromas and flavors, with plenty of stuffing to support the tannins. It remains a very finessed yet backward Case Nere in need of a few years of bottle age. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2022. - Robert Parker 92 Points
Bright, dark red. More violety lift to the nose than the Arione is currently showing, with notes of black cherry, leather, game and nutty oak. Densely packed but juicy and nicely delineated, with good verve and grip to the black and red fruit, loamy earth and menthol flavors. A rather elegant style, finishing with suave tannins and some recurring oak tones. But this also possesses the spine for a positive evolution in bottle. - Stephen Tanzer 90 Points
