    WINEMAKER’S COMMENTS:
The Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon is our hallmark expression of the estate vineyard surrounding our winery. It is dark, elegant and rich with aromas of black fruits, mocha and spice. The palate is met with complex notes of forest fruits, dark espresso and vanilla and the mouthfeel is balanced and creamy. The tannins are classic Stags Leap District; well-structured, velvety, and perfectly integrated, making this wine approachable now but also worthy of cellaring for decades.

    HARVEST:
The 2012 harvest season came as a great blessing to us in Napa Valley. A calm and beautiful spring resulted in a large crop of fruit that ripened slowly and evenly through a near perfect season. Temperatures in the summer were consistent and warm, resulting in great fruit flavors in all varietals. As we approached fall, it was apparent this would be one of the largest crops we have seen in recent memory with incredible quality. We began harvest on August 31 with Sauvignon Blanc. Fruit from our Carneros vineyard followed, culminating with picks of the Cabernet Sauvignon wrapping up at the end of October.

    HISTORY:
Clos Du Val, French for “small vineyard estate of a small valley,” was founded in 1972 in the renowned Stags Leap District. The winery was first recognized for its Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon at the famed Judgment of Paris in 1976, establishing its place as one of Napa Valley’s most iconic winery estates. Still family-owned today, Clos Du Val farms 350 acres of estate vineyards in the Stags Leap District, Carneros and Yountville appellations and continues to craft wines of balance and complexity, showcasing the fruit from the outstanding terroir on which our estate lies.

Clos du Val's 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon is a pretty wine with lovely balance and an understated personality to match. Plums, black cherries, tobacco, cedar, flowers and mint are laced into the silky, expressive finish. Overall this is an attractive, mid-weight Cabernet built on a classic sense of structure. It should drink well for the next decade or more. - Antonio Galloni 90-92 Points

The flagship wine that made Clos du Val famous (I especially remember their 1973 and 1974) is the Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap District. The 2012 possesses sweet, ripe (but not overripe) blackcurrant and black cherry fruit, dusty, loamy, forest floor notes, medium body, attractive elegance, and a broad, savory mouthfeel. The tannins are present, but well-integrated. This elegant, finesse-styled Cabernet should drink well for 10-15+ years. - Robert Parker 90 Points
